RE: Discontinuation of Part B Inspections at E-501 Storage Pad During Non-use
Dear Mr. Curtis:
The Division of Solid and Hazardous Waste (the Division) has received your request to temporarily
discontinue inspections of the E-501 storage pad. Inspections of the container storage area are
required by the Part B Storage Permit. Based on your letter dated June 5, 1996, it is understood that
this request is made due to a decrease in the volume of hazardous waste being stored at the
Promontory facility. This decrease in volume, according to your letter, has eliminated the need for
using the storage pad at this time. Thiokol anticipates future activities will provide a need for the
storage pad.
The Division approves a temporary discontinuance of inspections provided Thiokol follows the
conditions listerf below:
• Thiokol will notify the Division 30 days prior to reuse of the pad for the storage of hazardous
waste.
• Thiokol will inspect the storage pad at least 30 days prior to reuse and report the conditions
observed when notifying of its reuse.
• Thiokol will ensure that the facility is within permit standards prior to reuse.
