O. Box 144880 Salt Lake City, Utah 84114-4880 Dear Mr. Vandel Re: Inspection Requirements As a result of our discussion during your recent facility audit, I have reviewed our inspection requirements to verify all inspections are being performed as required. There was one area that may be subject to interpretations. There is a requirement in our permit to inspect our TSDF roadways, loading/unloading areas and the periphery daily when in use. Thiokol believes "in use" for roadways and loading areas means when you load/unload or transport materials through these areas. Therefore, on days when there are no people in the area and when no hazardous wastes are being moved, inspections of these areas are not required. This letter is simply to let you know of our interpretation of this requirement and requires no response unless you disagree with our approach. Thanks for your help with this and other envirormiental issues. I can be reached at (801) 863-4479 if you have any questions or comments. Sincerely /'Ji/V.Sl- Gene Curtis, Engineer Hazardous Waste Disposal KGC/bms
