Dear Mr. Downs
Subject: Thiokol Corporation, EPA #UTD00981357, RD&D Permit-
Solid Rocket Motor Disposal Facility, Update of
closure cost estimate and financial responsibility
for renewal request.
Mr. Otis Willoughby requested that Thiokol review and update
closure cost estimate and financial responsibility attachments
in our RD&D permit as part of the renewal process. Pursuant to
this request, we have evaluated both of these documents for
possible change.
An evaluation of the closure cost estimate indicates that no
revision is needed. As you may be aware, costs to dispose of
hazardous waste have dropped considerably over the past two
years and have held relatively constant the past several
months. As no additional scope has been identified for the
closure activities, Thiokol would like to continue to use
Attachment 3, Table 3 (Closure Cost Estimate) for the upcoming
12 month permit period. This estimate is $19,900.
The information contained in Appendix 05.OIA (Financial
Responsibility) and the cover memo dated September 28, 1993
#1010-FY94-057 is still accurate and should be used for the
renewed permit.
If you have any questions or need clarification on any points,
please contact Gene Curtis at 863-4479. Thank you for your
efforts on this renewal request.
