2. Summaries of all findings;
The raw analytical data for the reporting period is included with this report. This
data will be compared to standards considered to be protective of health and the
environment as outlined in Section 8.0 of the Data Collection Oualitv Assurance
Plan, Volume Two, Thiokol RCRA Facility Investigation Workpians.
3. Summaries of all changes made in the RCRA Facility Investigation during the
reporting period;
There were no changes made to the approved workpians of the RFI.
4. Summaries of all contact with representatives of the local community, public interest
groups or State Government during the reporting period;
Correspondence regarding RFI activities has been limited to the Division of Solid
and Hazardous Waste and the Division of Water Quality.
5. Summaries of all problems or potential problems encoimtered during the reporting
period;
During closure of the historic photographic waste discharge sites at M-636 (SWMU
24) and M-39 (SWMU 290) samples of the active (prior to May 31, 1993)
photographic discharge sites (SWMUs 367 and 425) were collected to determine if
the soils in the drainage areas contained economically recoverable levels of metals.
Elevated levels pf silver and cadmium were found. TCLP analysis was requested to
determine if the soils could be included with the closure soils for silver recovery.
The in-place soils fail TCLP analysis for cadmium and will not be included with the
soils scheduled for silver recovery. Thiokol is preparing a Voluntary Cleanup Plan
as described in Section VII.D.6 of the Post-Closure Permit for submittal to the
Executive Secretary outlining the actions to be taken at these sites.
6. Actions being taken to rectify problems;
All discharges to these areas were discontinued prior to 31 May 1995. A Voluntary
Cleanup Plan is in preparation which vnll outline the actions Thiokol will take at
these sites to remedy the situation.
7. Changes in personnel during the reporting period;
There has been no change in coordination and project management for the RFI
during the reporting period. The current organization chart for Thiokol's Safety,
Environmental and Support Group is unchanged since the last reporting period.
8. Projected work for the next reporting period;
The contractor providing the equipment for collecting soil samples is expected to
remobilize in early September 1995. Sampling will continue at the remaining sites
included in the RFI Workplan.
9. Copies of daily reports, inspection reports, laboratory and monitoring data.
Copies of the daily logs and laboratory data have or vnll be submitted with the
required closure reports for the respective sites.
