Hill Air Force Base (Hill AFB) requests cessation of passive soil vapor extraction (SVE) system operation at the Utah Test and Training Range (UTTR) Landfill 5 by capping the SVE wells but preserving the SVE wells in place in the event operation of the SVE system is needed in the future. Hill AFB completed removal of Landfill 5 waste materials in 2020 and will continue post-remediation long-term groundwater monitoring and groundwater data assessment per the UTTR Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) Operating Permit. Hill AFB may resume operation of the SVE system if statistically significant increases in groundwater constituent concentrations are observed. Based on the removal of Landfill 5 waste materials and continued assessment of groundwater, the Division approves your Request to cease SVE system operation. If you have any questions, please call Karen Wallner at (385) 499-0218. Sincerely, Douglas J.
