SITE VISIT NARRATIVE
On May 9,2018, Marty McComb, EPA's Region 8 On-Scene Coordinator, returned to the
Jensen Property. He brought EPA contractor, Weston Solutions, with him from the Denver,
Colorado area. Weston Solutions was there with a truck-mounted geoprobe and GpS equipment.
Weston employees (James Fineman and Joe Rudi) were using the GPS to lay out a fifty foot grid
on the west side of the property.
Mr. McComb subdivided the contaminated area into three zones . Zone I is the area by the road
that is to the south of the main stock gate that allows access to the area behind the house. Zone 2
is the center area of the west side of the property where containers and drums are stored. Zone 2
also has blast media that has been spread throughout the area which has been covered with
gravel. Zone 3 is located at the north end of the contaminated area and does not have a lot of
gravel in the area. It is in this areathatMrs. Jensen said there was a trench dug where liquids
were poured.
The Division was on-site twice on May 9,2018. During the first visit, utilities were being
located by the different utility companies. During the second site visit on that day, the Weston
Solutions personnel were using the geoprobe to identiS the thickness of the spent blast media.
Media thickness inZone I was approximately 16 inches. The spent media retrieved from each
surveyed location was placed in a plastic bag for possible analysis later.
While at the Jensen Property in the afternoon, a second On-Scene Coordinator, Todd DeGarmo,
arrived at the property. Todd and Marty will be sharing the responsibility of being present at the
property while cleanup activities are occurring. At 3:00 p.m. Byron Hartman of Environmental
Restoration arrived. Environmental Restoration is the company that shall be responsible for the
removal of the waste at the property. The four participants identified on page one walked the
property in order for Byron Hartman to document the waste that would be subsequently shipped
off site.
