Dear Mr. Anderson:
Pursuant to Module IV.0 and IV.I.1 of the ATK Hazardous Waste Storage Permit, ATK
Launch Systems Inc. (ATK) is submitting the corrective action progress report for the
period cited above. An updated copy of Table 1 s attached.
CURRENT/UPCOMING PROJECTS
Pit 38
Pit 38 was a research and development area that included four solid waste management
units (SWMUs): BP-4, OD-1, OD-2, and OD-3. A RCRA investigation and Interim
Corrective Action has been conducted based on the Work Plan approved by the Division.
Additional soil removal at OD-2 was conducted based on elevated concentrations of RDX.
Analytical results are pending. It is anticipated that a RFI/IM report will be submitted to the
Division on all four units during 2QCY18.
Group 5 Nitroglycerin Sumps
The six Group 5 sumps have been sampled in general accordance with the approved RFI
Work Plan. Three of the sumps reported analytical results that would indicate they
qualified for Unrestricted Soil Use. A RFI report was submitted to the Division for
management units S-15, S-33A, and S-33B. Analytical results for the remaining
management units (S-13, S-14, and S-16) indicated elevated concentrations of lead.
Corrective action has been approved by the Division and is planned to occur in late May.
SP-32 (Old Rail Line)
Trenches were excavated and sampled across the old rail line in accordance with the work
plan. Sample results are pending. Visual inspection of the trenches indicate two areas with
a combined volume of about 1600 cubic yards, may require corrective action.

BP-2
SWMU BP-2 is an old burn pan area used in the early 1900s for dynamite wastes. A work
plan has been submitted for approval to the Division. A start date to begin investigative
activities is early June.
BW-12 Soil Vapor Study
A work plan to extend the soil vapor study north of management unit BW-12 has been
submitted and approved by the Division. Sampling will be conducted in May.
