The facility purchased a compost tuming machine (with the additional watering option) but the delivery of thijiompost tumer has been delayed until the end of June 2018. Ashlee indicated that the compost piles would be higher and would no longer require additional space between piles to perform the tuming by a front end loader. The entire facility could be tumed in four hours once the composr turner is in operation. Ashlee also requested to use as much of the asphalt pad for composting operation and move non-composting operations off the pad to create additional processing space. These operations would include the final screening and the storage of non-conforming compost waste destined for the landfill. I requested that she submit the request by letterhead to formalize this request '/.vr Page 3 of 5 Initial shredding of the compost is performed on the east pad of the landfill. This pad is not covered by asphalt. There is no active composting performed on this pad. Waste is screened prior to shredding. 1,t fl Trucks and public drop-off is directed to the east pad for shredding. Once the waste is placed on the pad, the waste is inspected for MSW, rocks, concrete and metals which could damage the shredder. Shredded waste is placed in windrows on the west pad where the composting is performed. Composting takes approximately 12- 14 weeks and the windrows are turned weekly to prevent overheating of the compost, distribute and mix the waste and distribute the moisture. Page 4 of 5 $$$sir{,SSs The finished product is placed in the trammel screen to screen out the large pieces of waste as well as the waste that does not compost. The screen size is Vz" and regular compost is sorted through the screen. !t I J If.l-s i6 ._*da Waste that is rejected by the trammel screen is piled and will eventually be used inside the landfill. The composting process shrinks the sized of the windrows. Windrows are currently turned weekly by a front end loader. A windrow turner is expected at the end of June and will speed the turning process. Page -5 of 5
