Re: Higley Farms Land Application Site
Dear Mr. Sheehan:
On January 3, 2018, Carne I Corp. (Came) received a complaint about local flocks of birds being
attracted to the Higley Farms area. Came sent a response to DEQ on February 16, 2018. We
believe this condition could have arose, in part, from a product containing noodles that was land
applied at the Higley Farms site. We resolved this issue by taking the product to a different
location. Higley Farms has fully incorporated the product that was land applied. The conditions
are improved at this time.
Per your request, Came presents the following course of action for the Higley Farms site in
2018:
• We will use our reel to apply whey product to field #8 for the remainder of the year as
conditions allow. The reel will be the only application method used at this point. The
field will be aerated and flood irrigated as a means of incorporation.
• We will continually monitor the sites and make sure that incorporation is happening
when needed. This includes weekly site visits. As needed, we are available to meet with
DEQ officials and review the fields to ensure compliance.
After DEQ approves Came's outlined course of action, we will begin applying whey product to
the Higley Farms site. Please contact me if you have any questions.
