P.O. Box 36 Kanab, Utah 84741 RE: Compliance Evaluation Inspection
Long Valley Sanitary Landfill
SW119 Dear Mr. Little:
On April 17, 2018, a representative of the Division of Waste Management and Radiation Control
inspected the Long Valley Sanitary Landfill. At the time of inspection, the landfill was closed. The inactive disposal cell on the upper east terrace had intermediate cover. The active disposal cell on the south end of the landfill property was divided into a west and east side. The west side appeared to be
inactive with good intermediate soil cover. Very little blowing litter was noticed on the west side.
The east side was the active area of disposal and had been excavated to a greater depth. The disposal area has improved in size reduction in contrast with past inspections. Soil cover had not been placed on disposed of solid waste. Soil cover must be added at the end of each working day.
Site inspections are routinely conducted but are not always recorded. Please ensure that every load of solid waste that comes into the landfill is recorded in tons or cubic yards as well as type of material. Landfill site inspections should be done at least quarterly. A record of staff training should also be kept. To best optimize the utilization of landfill air space at the Long Valley Landfill, we encourage the
Western Kane County Special Service District Board to consider creating a Master Plan for the landfill. (Over)
