Plan Approval HistoryThe Division of Drinking Water (the Division) received the plans and specifications for equipping the Bryce Canyon Shadows Campground Well (WS001) (File #13000) and for the Bryce Canyon Shadows Water System (File #13435) including a distribution system, storage tank (ST001), and booster pump station (PF001) on July 17, 2023. Written review comments were sent to you and your consultant on August 8, 2023. Revised plans were received by the Division on September 19, 2023. Additional review comments were sent to you and your consultant on October 10, 2023. Final plans were received by the Division on October 18, 2023.The Division issued Plan Approval for drilling the Bryce Canyon Shadows Campground Well (WS001) on October 17, 2022, and Plan Approval for equipping the well, distribution system, booster station, and storage tank on October 26, 2023.Project DescriptionThe Bryce Canyon Shadows is a proposed water system that will serve 26 RV sites, 7 tent sites, and 4 rooms. There will be a restroom/shower facility and 2 washer/dryer units.Below is a description of each water system facility that has been designed and submitted for approvalBryce Canyon Shadows Campground Well (WS001) – The well is equipped with a ½ hp submersible pump and pumps a maximum of 5 gallons per minute (gpm). This pumping rate is enough to provide the required peak day demand for the system and is limited to this rate based on the source protection zones and property limitations. The well’s 24-hour constant rate pump test was conducted at 45 gpm. The discharge piping is installed in the same building that also houses the tank and booster station described below.Bryce Canyon Shadows Distribution System (DS001) – The water system distribution piping consists of about 1,400 linear feet of 2-inch and 4-inch diameter PVC pipe. Water is conveyed to the RV sites and the restroom facility. Under a peak instantaneous demand that has been calculated to be as much as 180 gpm, about 50 psi of pressure can be maintained throughout the system.Bryce Canyon Shadows Booster Pump Station (PF001) – The booster pump station is a 4 ESYBOX MAX 85/120 T CSA pump system that has four 2-hp pumps that each operate as needed based on demands of the system. It provided up to 180 gpm of flow at peak instantaneous demand. Bryce Canyon Shadows Tank (ST001) – This is a Norwesco 3,000-gallon plastic water storage tank that is ANSI/NSF 61 certified. The tank has been modified with an air vent and overflow. The stock lid was replaced with a hinged, no vent lid that is lockable and gasketed and is located inside a building for security and protection. An exception for not having a shoe box lid was already issued as part of the plan approval letter. We have received the following information for Bryce Shadows Campground water system including the Bryce Canyon Shadows Campground Well (WS001), Bryce Canyon Shadows Tank (ST001), and Bryce Canyon Shadows Booster Station (PF001) : Design engineer’s statement of conformance with approval conditions. Documentation of valid water right61-3344 (a48868). Evidence of O&M manual delivery. As-built or record drawings. Recorded land use agreements and approved Drinking Water Source Protection Plan. Satisfactory bacteriological results as evidence of proper disinfection and flushing. We have determined that all conditions of operating permit issuance have been met. On this basis, an Operating Permit for the Bryce Shadows Campground water system including the Bryce Canyon Shadows Campground Well (WS001), Bryce Canyon Shadows Tank (ST001), and Bryce Canyon Shadows Booster Station (PF001)is hereby issued as constituted by this letter. You may now place these facilities in service in your water system. Please maintain a copy of this letter with your permanent records for future reference. The equipped well pump capacity of the Bryce Canyon Shadows Campground Well (WS001) is 5 gpm. The safe yield of the Bryce Canyon Shadows Campground Well (WS001) is rated at 30 gpm, which is calculated based on two-thirds of the constant-rate aquifer drawdown test results at 45 gpm. The safe yield of 30 gpm is the basis for determining the maximum number of connections that the Bryce Canyon Shadows Campground Well (WS001) can serve. In this case, even though this well’s safe yield is calculated to be 30 gpm, the equipped pump capacity of 5 gpm is the physical limiting factor of well capacity.Source Monitoring Requirements Issuance of this Operating Permit changes your water system’s monitoring and reporting requirements.
