OPERATING STATUS: Permanently shut down.
PROCESS DESCRIPTION: This is a copper tube manufacturing plant. Copper cathode
(99.999% pure) is introduced into a melting furnace (2 furnaces
available) and then sent to a launder (trough). The copper then
flows to a cast furnace then a shell saw where it is cut to length.
From there, the copper goes to a milling machine, wall thickness
reduction machine, and cascade drawing machines to draw down
to size. The copper tube then goes to the finishing line. The
finishing line includes ink application for labeling, rotoblock,
coilers, and annealing furnace. A baghouse is used to control the
emission from the melting furnace. A diesel-fired emergency
generator is used to power the melting furnace in case of
electrical service outage to ensure molten copper doesn’t solidify
and damage the furnace.
