Shelley Executive Director DIVISION OF DRINKING WATER Tim Davis Director May 9, 2024 Lloyd Marchant Peoa Pipepline Company 3195 W 5340 N Peoa, Utah 84061 Subject: Increased Monitoring Requirements – Monthly Source Bacteriological Sampling of Peoa Spring (WS001); Peoa Pipeline Company, UTAH22013 Dear Lloyd Marchant: Peoa Pipeline Company is required to conduct source assessment sampling at Peoa Spring (WS001) to investigate the quality of that source. This requirement stems from the recent Level 1 Assessment that was submitted on February 23, 2024. Within this Level 1 Assessment, it was stated that there was a chlorinator failure that occurred in the month of January 2024. In the month of January 2024, there was a total of 10 samples taken within the distribution system (DS001) 9 of which were total coliform present, E. coli absent. There were two source samples taken at Peoa Spring (WS001) and both were total coliform present, E. coli absent. We do not have any recent continuous data for Peoa Spring (WS001) within the last ten years. It is necessary for the system to collect samples at Peoa Spring (WS001) as described below. 1. Take one bacteriological sample per month at Peoa Spring (WS001) prior to treatment. The purpose of this source sampling requirement is to gather data to evaluate the quality of this source. 2. This source sampling requirement shall begin May 2024 and extend at least 18 months for each month the spring is in operation and accessible, sufficient to cover two peak (or summer) operating seasons. The Division may evaluate the source sampling requirements after 18 months based on the data available at that time. 3. This source water quality evaluation has added the following monitoring requirement for your system: Facility with new requirements Analyte(s) Required # of samples Sampling Frequency Next Due Date Rule Reference Peoa Spring WS001 Total Coliform; E. coli 1 Each Monthly 5/31/2024 R309-215- 16(b) 4. All source samples shall be collected prior to any treatment and/or at a location that represents the source water quality. 5. Label all source samples with the facility name and code (Peoa Spring WS001) listed above as the sampling location and facility code. Please note that this source sampling requirement is in addition to the distribution system bacteriological sampling requirement already in place. All distribution samples must be labeled with sample location/sample address and DS001 for the facility code. You can find the current monitoring schedule for your water system at waterlink.utah.gov by selecting your system and then selecting Water Monitoring under Water System Reports. Thank you for your efforts in protecting the drinking water quality in your water system and protecting public health. If you have any questions regarding these increased monitoring requirements, please contact Sitara Federico of the Division at (385)-515-1459 or sfederico@utah.gov.
