Dear Messrs. Rupnow and Christensen:
The Division of Waste Management and Radiation Control as reviewed the Notification Letter (NL) for Monitoring Well and Piezometer Abandonment at Multiple Solid Waste Management Units
(SWMUs) Across the Site at the former Geneva Steel Facility located in Vineyard, Utah, dated February 23, 2024.
The NL proposes to abandon certain monitoring wells, piezometers, and recovery wells throughout the site that are no longer needed. The planned abandonment includes 15 monitoring wells,
nine piezometers, and eight recovery wells. Well abandonment will be performed in general accordance with Utah Administrative Code R655-4-14.
The Division has no concerns or comments with the NL, and it is hereby approved. Please give the Division at least 14 days prior notice to any field work.
