(Olympus), on behalf of l-aundry Supply Company (LSC), submits the following response to the Utah Department of Environmental Quality, Division of Solid and Hazardous Waste (DSHW) letter dated December 21, 1998 regarding continuing site investigation at LSC's facility. The DSHW requested that we provide decontamination procedures for the proposed soil boring advancement, monitoring well completion, and ground water sampling project. The following procedures will be used: . Soil Boring Advancement as split spoons and/or augers are removed from the subsurface, soilclinging to the equipmentwill be removed and placed in S$gallon drums. Following soil removal, the augers will be placed into troughs for stream cleaning. Water generated during the cleaning will be pumped into drums. Sediment remaining in the troughs will be shoveled into drums. o Monitoring Well Completion: all materials used during well completion will be new and contained in factory sealed packaging. No decontamination will be necessary. . Ground Water Sampling: water generated during well development and purging activity will be collected into S5-gallon drums. Pumps and hoses used forwell development and/orwell purging will be decontaminated by washing with a phosphate-free soap and water solution, followed by rinses of 1) tap water, 2) isopropy! alcohol and de-ionized water solution, and 3) de-ionized water. All rinsate water will be contained in drums. Ground water samples will be collected using disposable bailers. After use, the bailers willbe rinsed with tap waterand the rinsate waterwill be collected in drums. The rinsed bailers will be delivered to an appropriate facility for plastic recycling. Samples of all drummed soil and water will be collected for laboratory analyses. Based upon the Stage 1 and 2 data, additional stages will be better defined. LSC will not proceed with work beyond Stage 2 without DSHW approval.
