Dear Mr. Hansen
In accordance with section R315-270-61 of Title R315 of the Utah Administrative Code,
Emergency Permits, we are requesting a Hazardous Waste Emergency Permit to dispose of one
Ground Base Simulator.
The circumstances which necessitate this emergency permit are described below.
On 22 Feb 2024, Hill AFB was conducting a training exercise using Ground Base
Simulators (GBS). A GBS is a small explosive device that simulates an explosion. One of GBS
devices did not detonate during the exercise. Hill AFB EOD was contacted to assess the GBS
and determined it was unsafe to store and needed to be treated. The GBS will be treated at the
Hill AFB Proficiency Range on 22 Feb 2024 at approximately 1500 hours using one block of C4.
We received verbal approval from your staff on 22 Feb 2024 at 1415 hours with the
following permit number assigned to this operation, UT006-2024.
Please contact Dr. Karl Nieman, 75 CEG/CEIEA, at (801) 777-5788 with any questions
concerning this request.
Sincerely
AMANDA C. BURTON, NH-III, DAF
