Shelley Executive Director DIVISION OF DRINKING WATER Tim Davis Director October 3, 2023 Zachery Renstrom Washington County WCD – Sand Hollow 533 Waterworks Dr St George, UT 84770 Subject: Notice of Decreased Monitoring for Washington County WCD – Sand Hollow; UTAH27073 Zachery Renstrom: According to the Division of Drinking Water’s (the Division) records, Washington County WCD – Sand Hollow is operating four wells which were previously on a quarterly radionuclide monitoring schedule. It was requested that the Division evaluate radionuclide levels at the following four wells to determine if they qualify for reduced monitoring in accordance with R309- 205-7(1)(c): Sand Hollow #18 (identified as WS008 in the Division’s database), Sand Hollow Well 11 (WS021), Sand Hollow Well 12 (WS022) and Sand Hollow Well 13 (WS023). Reduced radionuclide monitoring eligibility is determined by taking the running annual average (RAA) of the combined radium-226 & radium-228 and Gross Alpha Particle Activity levels gathered through quarterly monitoring. The RAAs are then compared to their respective maximum contaminant levels (MCLs). The running annual average for each source is presented in the table below. Source Combined Radium 226 and Radium 228 RAA1 Gross Alpha Particle Activity RAA1 WS008 3 3.4 WS021 4 7.3 WS022 5 4.7 WS023 3 3.0 1-units presented in pCi/L Combined Radium 226 and Radium 228 MCL = 5 pCi/L Gross Alpha Particle Activity MCL = 15 pCi/L Zachery Renstrom Page 2 of 2 October 3, 2023 Based on the data available WS008, WS021, WS022 and WS023 all qualify for reduced monitoring, and their monitoring schedules have been changed. The monitoring frequency for each source is different and is specified in the enclosed monitoring schedule. You can also find a current copy of your complete monitoring schedule at waterlink.utah.gov. Thank you for your efforts in maintaining a safe drinking water system.
